Architecture

This set of tiles was inspired by Art Deco ornaments in Mumbai, India. This city was the backdrop to my childhood and I am lucky to be able to visit it every year. Mumbai is one of the few cities in the world that still has a heritage of Art-Deco-inspired buildings.

Walking past buildings on Marine Drive that have checkered tiles or discovering circular floral motifs in old cinema houses and courts is such a joy.

These motifs come from Art Deco buildings in Miami. The opulence and display of wealth were at its height in the 1920’s and 30’s. The current neon pop colors in the buildings were added on during the 80’s when a majority of these buildings were being restored or preserved.

The triptych uses hues inspired by the beach landscape.

These were motifs that I found wandering the streets of Vancouver. The colors were inspired by the colors in the city.
